The Calverton Practice Newsletter – April 2025
Our most recent CQC visit
As many of you may know, the last time CQC inspected the surgery we achieved an Outstanding rating. We had our latest inspection on 26th Feb and have just received their verbal feedback (we are told the formal report will take probably 3 months). I am delighted to report that this verbal feedback was very positive. Our inspectors stated that ‘it was a pleasure to visit us’ and that they had ‘nothing but good things to say’. We were described as a ‘fabulous practice’ and even that they ‘wished we were their GPs’. They said that it was a ‘very refreshing visit’ compared to many others done and they had nothing but praise for the culture of the practice and surgery team which was felt to be ‘caring for our patients and each other’. The fact that we embrace personal care and offer continuity where we can, was particularly noted. Our dispensing and reception teams were especially praised for their knowledge of patients who they dealt with regularly. Sadly, we have been advised that due to a revised CQC scoring system, a repeat Outstanding rating (despite such positive feedback) is unlikely, but we will wait and see.
Three members of our team deserve particular praise for the outcome of the visit. Dr Wight our CQC lead has put in many hours of preparation and reports (which completely dominated what should have been a week’s annual leave) plus Practice Manager Jayne Yeomans and Management Assistant Ros Ward who burned the midnight oil getting everything done on time. All of us are incredibly grateful for their hard work. Thanks also to those of you who filled in a feedback form, we were told this feedback was also very positive. Later this month we are hosting a visit from new local MP Michelle Welsh and we look forward to showing her all we are achieving. We will be impressing on her that though there has been some recent news regarding GP funding, it still falls far short of what the British Medical Association and Royal College of GPs suggest is required. Wes Streeting and Labours 10-year plan for the NHS is imminent, we await that with great interest!
Funding for further expansion of our building
One piece of good news to report is that we have secured funding for a further expansion of our building adding consulting space, extending our dispensary and updating our lift and storage space areas. Additionally, we welcome back Dr Ruth Baker after a spell of maternity leave and welcome new recruits Alex Krasinki to our nursing team and Emily Pickard to our secretarial team.
30 years at The Calverton Practice!
Finally, I would like to say how proud I am, in my 30th year at the practice, to be working with such an amazing team of people who inspire me in my role as a GP. I consider myself to be very lucky and wonder how many NHS colleagues would currently feel able to say this.
