The Calverton Surgery Newsletter December 2023
Seasons Greetings
As I write the December newsletter it feels we are some ways still from the festive season. Pressures abound and much of the world news feels still grim and depressing. Here at the surgery, we are aware of the pressures many of our patients are under whether that be financial, work related, social or due to caring responsibilities. As I wrote this time last year, in such circumstances it is crucial that we all support and look out for each other and here at the surgery we are aware that we have a part to play. It is essential that anyone struggling seeks help; our local Core Centre (based at the Working Men’s Club) can assist with Universal Credit (plus PIP, Attendance Allowance, Blue Badge, Food Bank referrals, Financial Guidance and Energy Saving tips), also Family Law and Citizens Advice. They run a job club and can help with phone and IT skills if needed. Additionally, Gedling BC have a site with links to support around cost of living.
Keeping warm can be a challenge at this time of year, more information can be found at Age UK – Staying healthy in Winter
Additionally for information on local ‘warm spaces’ visit Gedling Gov – Information on Local Warm Spaces (there are a number of options here in Calverton)
Also, do you need to know more about Autism? Autism central is a site delivered by parents and carers for parents and carers and can help increase awareness of the condition plus highlight services available. Their site is www.autismcentral.org.uk
At this time we say ‘Fond Farewell’ to Hally Bojko from our admin team who moves onto pastures new, but welcome Dr Malak Rammal (F) who embarks on her journey to train as a GP. Additionally, we welcome Rosalyn Ward as a management assistant.
Finally, many thanks to our Practice Participation Group (PPG) who organised a recent and very successful Health and Wellbeing event. Plus, at this time of year I would like to wish Seasons greetings to all and say thank you also for the many kind cards and gifts we receive at this time of year. Your thanks mean a lot to all of us.
